Slidematic Precision Components opened a 46,000 sq ft expansion to its facility in Rockford, IL, the Rock River Current reports.

The $7.9 million addition allows the company to grow its 200-strong workforce by an additional 25 jobs at its existing 166,000 sq ft factory where the family-owned business manufactures cold-headed screws and other fasteners.

“What we have built here, in my opinion, is probably one of the nicest manufacturing facilities in all of Rockford,” operations VP Brad Baker, who owns the business with his father, Randy, and brother, Randall. “It’s probably even one of the few air conditioned manufacturing facilities that we have, too. Which is another thing that our employees just love.”

The factory expansion in Rockford was built with assistance from the city, which provided $500,000 as a one-time reimbursement for eligible construction expenses.

“Slidematic’s continued growth is not only a win for the company, but for Rockford as a community,” Mayor Tom McNamara said. “It’s exciting to see one of our cold formers expand, continuing the legacy of Rockford as the Screw Capital of the World. Their investment demonstrates confidence in our community and the skilled workforce we offer.”

Founded in 1952, Slidematic also operates a 140,000 sq ft warehouse in Rockford, as well as a 38,000 sq ft warehouse in Tupelo, MS.
