Two Delta Air Lines flights made emergency landings in the last month after the cabin ceiling fell during take-off, Aviation A2Z reports.

The first incident happened April 14 when an overhead panel detached and struck a passenger on the head during a flight from Santa Ana to Atlanta.

A similar incident occurred that same day on a flight from Atlanta to Chicago, according to Aviation A2Z.

A Delta employee, commenting anonymously on Reddit, explained that the panel fasteners are designed with specific tension requirements.

“The fasteners are designed to be tight but not too tight in case flight attendants have to get to the wiring for a fire,” the employee wrote. “I’ve had to have my captain call several times because they’ve gotten too loose or break.”

Flight attendants were prohibited from removing the panels because it has wires that would need to be unplugged.

A Delta employee shared a similar experience on a flight from Atlanta to Denver, where an overhead panel was secured with duct tape.

The incidents have prompted wider discussion about aircraft maintenance practices.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) maintains strict regulations regarding aircraft airworthiness, including proper installation and maintenance of interior components.
