Donald C. Bennett, 92, died at his home in Naples, FL, on July 8.

Born and raised in Port Chester, NY, Bennett attended Cooper Union School of Engineering and served as an artillery and guided missile officer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Following his military service, he joined cold-formed fastener manufacturer RB&W in Port Chester, where he learned the fastener business from his father-in-law. In 1972 he founded Bennett Bolt Works, which Portland Bolt & Manufacturing Co. acquired in 2025.

Bennett was respected for his knowledge of guardrail fasteners and his involvement with state and federal organizations. He was a participating member of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA), and the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Joint Committee on New Highway Materials, Task Force 13.

He retired in 2010.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Lafayette; daughters Colleen Bennett and Eireann Govern, and son Michael Bennett; three grandchildren and many nephews, nieces, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Bennett.
