Portland industrial fastener supplier K.L. Jack purchased a 5,000 sq ft warehouse for $725,000, Mainebiz reports.

It’s the latest expansion for Maine’s largest fastener supplier, which has grown 25% annually since its founding in 1979. The veteran- and family-owned company now operates 45,000 sq ft of warehouse and office space, making it one of the largest fastener distributors in New England.

That’s no small feat for a two-person startup that began in a garage.

K.L. Jack was started by Kenneth and Mary Jack in the family garage in Limington, ME.

“My dad hit the road and started selling,” second-generation owner Gus Jack told Mainebiz.

By 1980, Gus Jack came home from college to help his parents handle the growing business.

“I came in and discovered that I really enjoyed the process of distribution,” Gus Jack explained. “My dad was the perfect fit as the outside salesperson and I was well-suited to be the inside presence managing the business processes.”

His mother, Mary, managed the office.
