Fastenal Co. reported fastener sales soared 8.9% to $211 million (30.7% of overall sales) in May, accelerating the company’s fastener revenue recovery that began in November 2024.

The gain is likely related to customers front-loading inventory ahead of President Donald Trump’s “reciprocal” tariffs. Fastenal reported a similar fastener revenue bump in March, when Trump reduced threatened global levies for 90 days.

Consolidated sales in May rose 4.3% to $687.3 million, including a 9.3% gain in daily sales to $32.7 million. Sales in the U.S. gained 9.4%, while sales in Canada and Mexico increased 7.9%.

By end market, May sales to heavy manufacturing customers improved 8.6%, while sales to all other manufacturing customers increased 12.8%. Sales to non-residential construction customers increased 3.3%.

Fastenal’s full time workforce increased 1.7% during May to 21,451 employees. Distribution / transportation personnel grew 3.8% to 3,089, while manufacturing personnel increased 5.4% to 964 workers.
