A day after the U.S. Court of International Trade blocked President Donald Trump from imposing sweeping tariffs on imports under an emergency-powers law, an appeals court paused that order pending an appeal hearing by the Trump administration. The appeals court decision allows the tariffs to remain in place until the appeal is decided.
The earlier ruling from a three-judge panel at the New York-based CIT came after several lawsuits arguing Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs exceeded his authority.
The CIT ruling did not affect tariffs imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 or Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974.
